When cold is the right call
Use it when recovery matters more than adaptation:

What this is really about
Both of these are second-order interventions, and it is worth keeping them in proportion.
The things that actually determine your recovery are sleep, food and how sensibly your training is arranged. A person sleeping six hours and eating in a deficit does not have a cold-exposure problem.
